Our mission at Great Lakes Luxury Fibers is to source natural, luxury fibers from farmers around the country and to utilize the flourishing mini mill business to produce truly unique yarns that will leave our customers wanting more. 

Using these family-owned and run mills is what sets our yarn far apart from the chain store variety.  Mini mills are “cottage industry” size mills built to specifically process luxury fibers in small quantities producing a high quality product.   We work with experienced mini millers who know luxury fibers and who take the time to recommend the best way to run our fiber.  These mills have made achievable the fantastic opportunity to produce a unique, world class yarn by providing our own sourced fiber to the mill and having that same fiber processed and delivered back in a definable product. 

Sourcing “local” fiber is the other key to our beautiful, one-of-a-kind artisan yarns.  You will often see us at fiber fairs around the country looking for that special farm and fiber that will keep us at the forefront of artisan yarn production and your stash held in the highest regard.  And we have spent wonderful spring days collecting buffalo fiber from brush, participating in farms’ shearing events to collect fresh fleeces and have met some of the kindest breeders who love and care for their fiber, hair and fleece providing animals. 

Because there are infinite variations of natural fibers and blends, we are always working on a new yarn.  We also hand dye and hand paint our own yarn with environmentally safe dyes.  So, please stop in periodically to check out the newest additions in our boutique.  If you do make a purchase, please remember that our yarns are sold in the batches that they were processed in.  This means that no two batches will be the same so please make sure that you have selected enough yarn to complete your project.
